What Happens When It Fires

A severe weather warning, a chemical release, an active threat or any other site-wide emergency. A supervisor or manager triggers a single broadcast, and:

Every Connected Surface at Once
Web browsers, the mobile app on every phone, and every EdgeSense device at every work cell receive it simultaneously. There is no per-device dispatch loop that reaches the far end of the plant last.
A Flashing Instruction at the Cell
Each work cell display shows the instruction, so a person who is not carrying a phone and is not near a desk is still told, at the machine they are standing at.
Shelter Maps on the Display
The instruction is accompanied by where to go. In an emergency the useful message is not "shelter" but "shelter there", particularly for contractors and new hires.
An Audible Warning
The EdgeSense audio engine sounds at the cell, so the alert carries over machine noise to someone who is not looking at a screen.
In Each Person's Own Language
The message is delivered in each recipient's configured language. On a floor running several first languages, an emergency instruction that only some of the workforce can read is not an emergency instruction.
Acknowledgement Tracking
Recipients acknowledge, and the originator sees who has confirmed. This is the part that distinguishes it from a PA system, and the reason a drill produces a number rather than an impression.

Why It Works When Other Things Fail

The broadcast runs over the plant's own network, through ProAlert's real-time transport. It does not depend on internet connectivity, a cellular carrier, or a third-party notification service.

In a severe weather event, those three are precisely the things most likely to be degraded, and they are the three that a cloud-hosted mass notification product depends on entirely. Triggering is restricted by role, and deliberately not available to every user:

Role membership is configured in administration, so which named people hold those roles is the plant's decision rather than a fixed list.

Safety Incident Register

Separate from the emergency broadcast, ProAlert keeps a structured register of safety incidents: near misses, injuries, unsafe conditions, and the follow-up on each.

Because it sits on the same database as maintenance and quality, a safety incident connects to the asset involved, the work order that resolved the hazard, and the corrective action that followed. In most plants the safety record is a separate binder or spreadsheet that never connects to the maintenance history of the machine that caused the injury, which is exactly the connection an investigation needs.
